People focus on ratio's too much. The money is the bottom line.

Here's something to think about.

1. Say you have a very targeted link that says
"Hustler.com" and it gets clicked 1,000 times a day with a 1/200 ratio. That's 5 sales a day.

2. Now imagine if you play with that link a bit and make it a little more blind so it's says "Hustler Hardcore Sex Movies". Because it is more blind and mentions movies you now you get 3,000 clicks daily instead but the ratio goes double to 1/400. This version will get you 7.5 sales a day.

Which one would you prefer?

It's all a game of maximizing your traffic and getting the most sales with a decent ratio WITHOUT over focusing on the raio part.
You can't bring a ratio to the bank.

You do bring up some valid points but I think it all comes down to your traffic source and what it's costing you.

If you are buying traffic (like ppc) then ratio's are VERY important because you need to watch your profit margin. The difference between 1/200 1/300 can mean the difference betwen profit and loss. You said "less traffic = less costs ( buying traffic , BW etc..)"
and I agree with you 100% if you are straignt up buying the traffic.

On the other hand if you have TONS of free sites listed everywhere then ratio's aren't as important. If a site is getting 1,000 visitors a day you want to get as many surfers clicking your ads as possible. The outclick to the sponsor isn't costing you anything, just the bandwith of the sites themselves. So in this case you'll use lots of different techniques and tricks to get surfers clicking out to the sponsors. In this scenario is where my first example makes most sense. Here if you're overfiltering and getting super low ratio's it just means you're leaving tons of clicks behind. After all the amount of visitors to your site isn't changing so your cost isn't effected by outclicks. In fact your bandiwth bill is higher if they stick around your site too long clicking pics. So a very high ratio here just means your good and getting outclicks and if you can keep it profitable then 1/200 or 1/400 doesn't matter.
