I've used several registrars, and agree with their reviews. Directnic has a nice interface and offers good amenities. That's who I recommend to people who just need a couple domains. I primarily use enom, which is about half the price (in quantity 1000), and still has a fairly decent interface. Godaddy is a bit cheaper still (I think by 50 cents), and isn't bad, though I still have a bit of a preference for enom.
On the other side of the coin, registrars I've had critical, domain-losing problems with are Joker and Nominalia. I've also had some eyebrow-raising issues with bulkregistrar and domainnamesystems (database integrity issues and such), though don't think I've actually lost any names with them, and domainnamasytems at least has great tech support (the other three have terrible support).
