    Kernel32.dll error

I'm getting this error on running some programs -

"Could not load the DLL library C:\WIND98\SYSTEM\kernerl32.dll. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format"

It's a fresh install of windows 98, but without reformatting the harddisk. The older install exists on the directory windows which I renamed to windows1. Anyone know what I can do to resolve the error? I am unable to run a couple of important software.

Have to go to the MS Windows update page and install all the new patches etc. When you reload windows, it overwrites any and all patched files with the older version. :P
