What kind of scripts are out there that are any good?

I am looking at something for a small scale demo, and maybe launch later.

Are you looking for something that will spyder and index pages similar to google, or are you looking for something to search existing sites? It's fairly simple to add a simple search engine to just about any script.

I am not looking for it to spyder any pre-existing listings. No. Something that scans existing sites, yes.

Any script that works will have diminishing returns over time as more and more installs go up. The more popular it gets, the more search engines will notice it and either ban them or hinder their performance. Same for SEO software.

This is not going to be a search engine for search engines. This would be a search engine for a closed network mate.
