I saw a couple folks talking about WW3 in the "future of humanity" thread and it got me wondering about what WW3 will be fought over. After a bit of thinking I came to the conclusion that if global warming continues (which it is bound to at least for a while) than WW3 will most definitely be fought over good ol H20...but this is just my idea and I'd like to hear some others. So, what do you guys think WW3 will be fought over?

World tensions are becoming bigger and bigger: Russia - NATO, US - Iran...
One spark and this whole thing will blow up. And besides oil depositories are running out. Soon, oil will break $200/barrel barrier and will go higher and higher. There is no more oil guys, but at the same time China and India will require more and more. Its like annual 10% economical growth there even now. WW3 is inevitable.

WWIII won't be fought over oil but it will be fought and unless you keel over with a heart attack, within your life time.

It will contain nuclear weapons - most probably started by the detonation of one. It will not however, throw us back into a "doomsday". The only 2 countries that could have potentially done that are the U.S. and Russia - and neither are stupid enough to use them on one another.

Israel - 7 million Jews surrounded by 100 million muslims. That's where it'll start.

The sad thing is, it doesn't have to be over oil. Sucks that innovation is stifled by oil companies buying up patents that could effectively prevent a WWIII. Car manufacturers aren't really helping either, when you have companies like Ford not releasing their 65mpg car to the United States.

A 'world war' means the whole WORLD is at, or involved, in war. Not just a single superpower fighting regional conflicts to preserve it's own self interests, and impose it's will based demand of it's the corporate masters of capitalism.

WWIII will be over the control of natural resources. Energy, food, water.

I also vote for water as the root cause. Energy is to much of a no brainer and there are ways around that one. Fresh water on the other hand is something entirely different and it would be way to easy for one country to fuck another country without even leaving their own borders with water. Big example would be the Colorado river, most of it is in the US, yet it is also very needed in Mexico. Examples like this are all over the globe and what happens when the country upstream decides it needs all of the water or enough to prevent its flow outside of the country (diversion, dams, whatever).

Plus food requires water to produce really and its not like we are up to speed on desalination plants for large enough production to supply inland areas.

The main ice covered landmass is Antarctica at the South Pole, with about 90 percent of the world's ice (and 70 percent of its fresh water). Antarctica is covered with ice an average of 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) thick. If all of the Antarctic ice melted, sea levels around the world would rise about 61 meters (200 feet)

There is a significant amount of ice covering Greenland, which would add another 7 meters (20 feet) to the oceans if it melted. Because Greenland is closer to the equator than Antarctica, the temperatures there are higher, so the ice is more likely to melt.

There are states that don't have enough water to support it's population. Some of these states are already fighting in court to have more water shipped in.

I don't think anyone is expecting you to make a ice run to the Antarctica every time you throw a kegger - I'm merely showing that water is not a reason that we'll be at war anytime soon. Water is a renewable resource.

All the water that was on earth 1,000,000 years ago is still here so supply isn't the problem Maybe you'd like to Google the term "Hydrologic Cycle" for a better explaination.

Interesting with the water.. because you can't create or destroy water, just change its state.. The only water we've ever lost is perhaps through going to space?

Nuclear power + desalination. I don't think major powers will fight over water for this reason. We will fuck our environment more yet! Though I do agree water is going to become a major issue in the future, if it isn't already - I know it is in Australia already.

Since you can actually make clean H2O from saltwater, it would probably be more cost effective to make water than fight wars for it. But then again Bush went to war in Iraq for energy instead of building nuclear power plants.

WWIII Will be due to over population.

-Due to over population food/water/energy etc. all start to boil over and become problems that need to be solved by the dominate groups to keep their control, their image of being the best.

Our once great city's are falling apart the people are being over taxed to keep them up and running. The financial sky is falling and is based on credit not really money. I think the Disney Dollars I got as a kid have more value now.

Don't believe me just look at history this had happened time and time again.. Populations get to large then war/famine/sickness or whatever.

As for WW4 .. that won’t happen because by then the worlds computers will be connected and running Windows crash allot service pack 3000. And nobody will be able to get past their blue screens to launch anything .. Well that and so 12 year old in china will finally be able to say he really did hack the planet.. :P
