    Quicktime HDV Codec for Windows?

    Hi.

I have some HD video files in Quicktime format that need to be reviewed. Initially, they didn't play on a Mac or PC through the QuickTime player--sound only, no video. I popped in the Avid codec on my Mac and it worked fine. Not so lucky with my PC. I've tried everything from the Avid Quicktime Codecs versions 1.2-1.9 with no luck. I've even tried the $19.95 Quicktime MPEG-2 extension for Windows and I've reinstalled the most recent versions of XVid, DivX, etc. Nothing.

I don't need to view the files through QuickTime if there's another player that will do it. The only thing I know of that I haven't tried is QuickTime Alternative, since it requires a complete uninstall of QuickTime. Any ideas?

And yeah, "just use the Mac" won't work. Sadly, there are other folks who need to review these who won't make the switch.

    Thanks!

I don't know how I forgot to try VLC. That thing has been pure magic for years. And, of course, it worked like a charm. Thank you sticky, thank you VLC, and screw you Apple and Microsoft!
