Oh. That makes two of us who figured otherwise. It's pretty damn easy to have awstats added; you just may want to decide if you want, or don't need to resolve the client IP addresses; this takes the most time. Several basic installations disable this by default.

If you want the easiest-to-implement, wont-kill-server, and needs-no-feeding, then I'd just suggest Google Analytics as Ben mentioned above. Analog is a lot more basic, but has some other tools available, and Webalizer is actually kind of nice.
They all take some feeding, though.
