I would think someone with multiple domains would have some experience by checking future page rank and then seeing what happens at next google update.

the future PR tools that return results from multiple google data centers are a great way to see an upcoming PR update. If the results vary from DC to DC it's a sure bet that an update is happening.

The real future pr tools use different data centers to display your current results. That's it so they are totally useful but only during an update.

PS The ones that try to predict future rank prior to an update use a script that checks inbound links etc by doing realtime sarches of the domain. I would take these with a grain of salt as there is far too much involved to be very accurate.
