    hi def flash encoding

what the fuck am I doing wrong? I'm trying to convert 10 movies from AVI to .flv. I've tried using Cleaner, CS3, and Flash Video MX Pro.

All of them chomp thru SD with no problems, but HD... Fuck. This shit takes fucking forever, and it either doesn't look that good or is WAAAAAY to big for downloading. It takes nearly 20 times real time. My machine is overkill for this kind of work so it's not a machine issue.

How the fuck do TV shows do it? I can go to the ABC website and watch LOST, and the moment I click play it plays fast and is full frame.

    How do I do that?

        Yup, thats normal.

The reason why other sites load so fast is cause they use HINTS inside Flash. Read up on it and you'll understand

          why not stick to 264.

i use Sorenson , the 5.0 seem to be good

also you can buy dedicated hardware to speed up the encoding , unless you do this every day its not worth it..prices start around 7k

and for mass encoding HD super fast, you'll need special software and some hardware. I can't remember the software's name exactly... i'm tired.
Maybe tomorrow it will come back to me.

Anyhow, consumer progs are hella slow for HD or HDV. You need to go higher end to get the job done fast.

Adobe Flash Encoder with the ON2 VP6 codec works the best. Or you may alternatively try Sorenson Squeeze with the same codec, but I find the audio goes out of sync with Sorenson. These apps generally encode much faster than say Cleaner XL, which doesn't even take advantage of the ON2 VP6 codec. Flix Pro by the makers of the ON2 VP6 codec is another software option to do encoding.

although H.264 is the key to HD (vp6-s is capable of doing HD but its expensive, lower quality compared to h.264)
but there are just too many options in H.264 to optimize quality on lower bitrates.
I spent too much time to find optimal encoding options. Without using proper encoding options, x264 is a joke.

by settings I mean best possible quality at the lowest possible bitrate. That is the hard part. Also, your demo video has a very little movement, fixed scene with only a girl is moving. Surely videos like that can be compressed much more than a fast porn action and they can provide better quality.

I understand that. However we do have all our videos in h264. Thats just the video we did for cavecreek. I can show you action movie scenes at 1500k that are flawless in h264 and encoded on just consumer end computers. That clip I showed is 1500k.

We are seeing a huge rise in adoption for h.264 now that more streaming providers are able to support it and the higher bit rates can be delivered with better performance.

We use H.264 for flash HD compression mostly. The good streaming servers will stream h.264 using a flash player.
