Wordpress vs Movable Type

I want to create a blog and a friend of mine suggested I look into Movable Type instead of Wordpress. I want to look into Wordpress not only because I want to create a blog but also because it would be good to know the platform if I want to build customizations for clients. My friend suggested I use Movable Type instead because it was more feature rich.

Which one do you guys use? What's the most popular? I'm more concerned with what everybody else is using because even if the features aren't as rich I want to learn the platform more people are on.

What are the pros and cons of each?

I wasn't sure about that. I seem to recall it being mentioned more in discussion though, just wanted to get some feedback.

WordPress is much slower but its API's are well-documented so there are many good plugins that allows to turn it into anything you need. So my personal choice is WordPress.

As about the overall popularity. WordPress is also #1.

Why not learn both? Wordpress is PHP based while Movable Type is Perl/CGI based. There are both pros and cons to both. For me when I start my blog network I don't feel like managing say 20, 30 or more installs of wordpress whereas MT can do this from one install.

A lot of people also use Blogs Organizer.

the only bad factor is the slowness like cyberxxx said, the plugins available make it too good not to use.

I love Movable Type, but I know most people use Wordpress. MT just feels better to me when I use it.

I love more on wordpress... bec. I think I have more control on it and plus the customization for designs and template is pretty oustanding...

You can do anything with WordPress really, plus the plugins rock. I've NEVER heard of "Movable Type". Infact I don't think I've ever heard of another blog script, I probrably have but just don't remember it because to me WordPress will never be replaced.

The bad thing about Wordpress is, due to it's popularity, there's a security patch it seems every other week. Fine if you have a few blogs. A bitch when you're running a network.

BTW, installing caching plugins like WP-SuperCache will solve the main problem of WP

Wordpress for sure More choices for templates, designers, plugins etc.

why don't you try them both out and see which one YOU like better. They both accomplish the same thing ... what may be important to some means squat to others but if you can get the job done fast and make your $ you picked a winner
