    Google, Gmail and SPAM

    Hi,

Today I was checking my gmain and I started to wonder how gmail track SPAM ?

What happens when we hit the "report Spam" button ?

Does it "learn" only for our gmail account ? Or does google keep some blacklist database with reported email addresses ?

If yes, does it affects google rankings because blacklisted domain names ?

    Wait I have a theory

So, let's talk about mainstream websites, real life companies !

    - I send some fake emails to my competitors
    - then they reply
    - then I hit the "report spam"
    - then I repeat this with several fake email accounts created by me
    - then all email messages sent by those companies to gmail accounts of their real customers get trapped with gmail spam filter !

    That's a kick-ass theory I know, I have an evil mind

I'm not even sure thats how google works or if it isn't user checked... but you doing it with a few emails would most likely make absolutely no difference overall.

Yeah since spammers are spamming millions of e-mails every damn day, i'm sure a couple thousand "hits" of the report spam button, and i'm sure it gets flagged - you hitting it on 1 or 2 e-mails is just a waste of time.

yes it would work on a large scale
