i did for like 15 years.. just a few months ago i started to not look at the keys and whatta ya know, i can do it just as fast..

belive it or not even when i looked at the keyboard i always typed a zillion wpm... since i have an unorthodox finger setup i visually kept my place... now i just know where my fingers are and where the corresponding keys are

i look "sort of" .. i mean i look for the first letter usually I mean i know where they are .. just ..ya i look but not pecking by any means .. i think i am pretty fast .. the wife fucking kills me without looking .. but i am not to bad .. way fucking slower not looking ..

I only need a glance at the very start to get myself oriented, then I'm looking at the characters as I type. This can cause issues if I'm logged in via SSH to an overloaded server, because the characters can come back a second or two after I actually press the key, gets me all muddled.

Dunno if I'm that fast but I do pretty well for a 2 finger + thumb for space typer. I used to do work at a school with an ancient IBM keyboard, which was super tactile clattery... people would always comment at the strange noises it made when I was sitting at it.

Only time I ever end up looking is when it is like real late at night, in bed, and dark. Then for some odd reason my laptop had slid a small bit or turned some. Then I go type say the letter S and I will hit the W or the E. Under most situations I will just automatically hit the backspace and then hit the correct letter. However sometimes I just keep hitting the wrong damn line until I readjust the laptop. Also find it strange, is that I often know when I hit the wrong key and will automatically be hitting the backspace the very millisecond after hitting it.

Now when I move from the laptop to the PC I may have a prob for a few min. Or if someone places a different keyboard in front of me.

I don't get it when ppl say they look down to start.. your F and J have a small bump on the keys so you know where your home keys are.

sadly when I started high school I took a typing coarse (electric typewritter) thinking I would be in a class full of girls. That was not an easy class at the time.. but yeah from day 1 I was not allowed to look at my keyboard.

I used a typing tutor program to learn, which trains you to look at the screen, not at the keys.

I never look at the keys.
