system administration on demand

I've got a friend with a large mainstream forum and he can't figure out why the machine keeps falling over. His host isn't providing the service fast enough and it's down. Does anyone know of a service out there for system admin by the hour ?

I'm not looking for hosts jump over this, just looking for a short term fix for my buddy. Ideas people ?

Sometimes a 'short term fix' doesn't work. If it takes a load and just tanks, it may be running out of RAM, the SQL database may be hosed, there's any number of things that can add to the 'death' issue. By the time you're at the 'plays dead' stage, you're already slightly fucked, so it's time to recover, regroup, and start testing.

you'll get no respect from any tech in this manner, for hosts put the freelance techs outta business... now you want to use the host and pay his rent, but have the tech on the side for virtually free... not going to happen... we spit in hosts direction... find a new host
