The cost of government benefits for seniors soared to a record $27,289 per senior in 2007, according to a USA TODAY analysis.

That is before income tax. People never think about that theft from paychecks when they discuss how low income taxes are in the US of A.

Actually Medicare didn't start until the 1960's.

No it's not 18%. It's 7.65% 6.25% for SS and 1.4% for Medicare. Back when these old fuckers were working that % was MUCH lower. The average current SS recipient has gotten back that he has paid into the system within 3 years or less.

Recently my best friend's father died. I was pretty close to him; He was the closest thing I had to a father being as my father died when I was an infant. Everyone knew his health wasn't well but when the final slide came it came quickly and it ripped the family apart. A simple fall in the shower led to a broken bone which put him in the hospital which was too much of a shock to his mental state. Suddenly he couldn't remember who his own kids were, or who his wife of forty years was. On one hand he was tired of the visits to a nursing home to visit a father who didn't remember him, but yet no one wanted to see their father die.

I mean, I'm good. I have no parents; I'm a bastard child so I'm never going to have worry about careing for my parents. But when your father can't whipe his own ass, well, remember this thread, and you'll see things from the other side.
