    Google Toolbar hijacking 404 errors

    Check out this: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...-features.html

Google is pushing it way too far in my opinion, it's certainly not their decision where to send my 404 traffic. Especially "If all else fails, there's always a chance that similar content already exists elsewhere on the web. The Google web search can help your users to find it - the Toolbar will help you by adding the keywords found in the URL to the search box."

Use custom 404 pages and you won't have any worries. People who aren't doing that already are fucking up.

      Also I like this idea:

When your server is unreachable, the Google Toolbar will automatically display a link to the cached version of your page.

          read the fine print :

3 site issues detected by Google Toolbar : 404 errors with default error pages ; DNS errors ; Connection failures

None of those you can redirect anywhere anyway, so.

I do not like how they want to redirect DNS errors. They could easily compile a list of domains that aren't registered but getting typein traffic and register them themselves with adsense landing pages and clean up.

They could have done this already, if they wanted to.
