vBulletin or phpBB ?

One is paid the other is free, any reasons why I should not be using the free ones?

I have used PHPBB, MYBB and many others I have been running VB for a few months now and wouldn't use any of the free stuff again. It's more secure, support is good and the features are better....

I agree, I have used PHPBB for a couple of boards, and now have 2 vBulletin boards. vBulletin is so much more secure and is worth the investment it saves you in headaches!

vb or ipb are the best, both are payed though.
Both vb and ipb are very secure, lots of skins are available free and paid and there are also 10000's of free modifications that you can install in seconds.

There is one free option i can recommend and thats is "smf" simple machines forum.
Although a fair bit like phpbb, its alot more secure


phpbb on the other hand has alot of exploits, not sure about the latest phpbb3 but anything phpbb i stay clear from.

vBulletin is the best of them all and it's worth it's price. IPB is not bad at all but I would recommend you vBulletin more than IPB for it has more options among other things.

If you want to avoid to buy a licence for a board, I suggest you MyBB more than phpBB or SMF because it is simply a free version of vBulletin. It doesn't have all of the options that vBulletin has but it has the main options in admin panel, mod panel as well as all the stuffs needed for posting.
