Tech help needed please...!!

.. so here's my problem. I ran an AVG Antivirus scan on the weekend and after doing so all of a sudden I am no longer able to access the 'My Documents' folder on my computer (and some other folders that have never been locked before). It tells me permission denied

I am the only administrator/user on this computer. I ran a different anti-virus scan, rebooted, rebooted the internet, rebooted everything and still it won't let me in.

I've done the microsoft help (I'm running Vista btw) and I'm just confused as all hell.

It also seems that all my folders now have the desktop.ini file showing, and are all set to Read Only.

I really don't know what to do and I'm hoping perhaps some of the tech wizard/gurus who frequent GFY might be able to offer some suggestions for me to try.

Open Explorer and browse to the folder you want to open, but can’t. Right-click it and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Advanced button.
On the Advanced Security Settings dialog, click Edit.
Clear the Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent check box. Click OK.
Back at the Advanced Security Settings dialog, click the Owner tab.
UAC will prompt you. Go ahead and provide administrative credentials; you can’t take ownership otherwise.
Select the Replace owner on subcategories and objects check box. Then, click OK.
Click Yes at the Windows Security dialog. Then, click OK to close all dialog boxes.
If your problem was file permissions, that you let you get your file back.
Click the Edit button.

Vista - don't know... reformat the hard drive and get another OS. ... good luck

wow, this is going to be a pain in the ass to do for all affected folders, but it worked on the first one I tried!

What he said... or just turn off the User Account Control off, and that *might* clear up permissions issues. It's helped on my vista rig after swapping hds in between another vista rig.
