Comments please (basic layout)

Ok, i am new to this industry so i dont know what is best in the way of designs.
I look around at several sites for inspiration but always come across ones with lots of images that load slow.

So basically i have decided to go with mainly css and until now this is the outcome.

Which do you preffer, 1st or 2nd attempt?

1. I'd say stick to larger images. People are using higher resolutions so the 2nd has too small of thumbs.

I personally like the smaller images, although i could settle for number 3.

This is for a subpage, the main page has larger images.
