I would say 450px in width by 675px in height. I myself don't like using thumbs under 400px in width.

If you can offer multiple thumbs sizes then do it. Otherwise i would stay under 450 wide.

don't make it more than 400 px wide, but it makes a lot of sense to offer multiple thumb size option.

nothing over 400 pix wide... length won't matter as it will conform to the 400px wide rule.

yeah i think text is the most important. the long tail search terms bring in a lot of sales... i think guys searching for something specific are closer to generating a sale than a guy who sees a pic and clicks it.

Generally, sidebar vary from 100px to 160px(max). I prefer 125px and thumbs that rotate daily...
