Like Strongbox and other software which is a bit new and different, Throttlebox
will probably take a little time before a lot of people use it. People need some
time, it seems, to get used to something new and in this case come to
understand that this isn't the same old "maximum X GBs per day" which
doesn't work so well. Also, rather than focusing on advertising and marketing,
we'd rather focus on solving your problems, so it takes little while for word to
get out and not a lot of people are using Throttlebox yet. I suspect it'll be like
Strongbox was and you'll see a lot more people using it in six months.

Initially I wasn't too sure how effective it would be because I had for years
been dissapointed with the simple "X GB per day" systems. I had hopes that
a more intelligent system would work a lot better, but looked forward to seeing
if it really did. So far I've been very happy to see that it seems to work quite
well. Once Throttlebox seperates out different types of files, tracks the number
of files as well as their size, and considers various time periods, there is a
marked difference between legitimate usage by someone who really likes your
site versus someone ripping your site or just downloading everything they can
overnight. If the limits are set a bit higher than might be intuitive, Throttlebox won't
stop someone who is downloading and viewing the videos or going through
a lot of pictures, but will catch the inappropriate usage before it gets out of hand.
This as done a pretty good job of not only saving some bandwidth costs,
but perhaps more importantly keeping the site quick and responsive because
it's not overloaded by a couple of guys ripping the site.

On a few servers there was an issue with how Throttlebox saved the data and
that took a little while to get worked out, but that's been taken care of now.
At this point we're at the stage of expanding Throttlebox for specific uses, such
as for a feed provider who wants to manage bandwidth usage by their
webmaster clients and people who want to stop ripping of the free areas of
their site, such as promotional galleries. While we're adding these new features
and improving existing ones regularly, it's a good time to let us know about
any new features or improvements to existing features that would be helpful
to you. While the system is pretty solid as it is right now, there is still
opportunity to work together to have a system which precisely fits your exact needs.
