    German Courage

We shouldn't be too concerned about Germany not joining the fight in the Middle East. It's unlikely they would be much help; after all, they lost the last two wars they were in.

(They did however have natty uniforms)

Speaking of the US, the last two REAL wars we were in (if you had transposed Desert Storm to WWII, it would hardly have qualified as a skirmish), we didn't win: Korea and Vietnam.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Germanies army was one of the strongest of the world at ww2. But who can beat an international alliance, including US and Canada?

Germany is ok, they have different opinions on the necessity for war in Iraq and we should allow for that opinion.

Desert Storm would have been a mid-level skirmish by Vietnam terms.

Having an opinion is one thing. Take France for example.

France says "We don't want war, so let's see what other options we have before we take on drastic measures". This is smart, this is what you call diplomacy.

Germany: "We don't give a flying fuck, whatever Saddam does, whatever Dr. Blix finds, we do not care. We will not help finance the war, we will not help reconstruct Iraq afterwards".

Few people on the outside know Germany had elections last September and underhouse elections 2 weeks ago. The current chancellor was only able to remain in office (by a slim margin of 8000 votes) since he vehemently opposed war in a very very populistic and stupid manner.

          Very shortsighted in my view.

Okay, this is a bit or re-writing history. Germany did not have that strong an army at the beginning of WWII...and, in fact, had alliances with Italy and Japan early on. The Allied forces were fragmented and the US did not enter the war until it was going on for a long while.

As a matter of fact, the US truly wanted to stay out of it believing it to be a 'European Affair." Isolationism was rampant in the US then, which the US was highly criticized for. It's an irony, when the US wants to stay out of a conflict, it's accused of not shouldering its responsibilities as an international leader. When the US decides to act, it is suddenly imperialism.

The fact is, Germany built a huge war machine as the war was ongoing. But at the time, no other European nation was particularly strong either....except England. But, of course, Chamberlain made a huge mistake in believing Hitler would not invade other European nations.

Shit...this post has already gone on too long.

I'm currently reading "The rise and fall of the Third Reich" by William Shirer. Great shit if your into WWII.

Germany started to build up it's armed forces as soon as Hilter came to power. More or less, Germany become a massive production machine. Also, besides Italy and Japan, Spain was also allied with Germany.

At the very same time the US more or less had no armed forces.

I'm not really sure if Korea and Vietnam are considered "wars". Granted, I don't know jack shit about Korea and if I recall correctly we lost a lot of men in Vietnam. But wasn't Korea and Vietnam more of a conflict where we were "helping" someone.

Things have changed. The US bombs the living shit of someone before going in. Iraq will be destroyed before we go in on foot. And again their armed forces will surrender to CNN news crews.

So if Saddam was the leader of Algeria, do you think the French would have the same hardline against ousting him???

Ironic that the French are always so quick to counter policy in the Middle East when 1) most of the problems there can be directly attributed to them post WWI (the French Mandate) and the British (but at least the Brits recognize it, and have tried fix things)... 2) France has sold a fuck load of arms to rogue middle eastern nations....

If you want to be really technical, neither of those were wars.
