        Step 1: (Make it available in the Add or Remove Programs)
        Launch Windows Explorer:
        (Its in START - Programs - Accessories - Windows Explorer)
        From the menu select tools then Folder Options
        Select the View tab
        Check "Show hidden files and folders"
        Select OK

        Change into the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory
        Right click on SYSOC.INF file and select OPEN
        find the following line:

        msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,HIDE,7

        change it to:

        msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

        Select File then Save, then File and Exit the program.

        Step 2: (Remove it!)
        In the control panel double click the Add or Remove Programs Icon
        Select Add/Remove Windows Components
        Un-Check Windows Messenger.
        Select Next
        Select Finished!

          If it's just the popups you want to kill, go into your services, and change the "Messenger" startup type to "Disabled".

                In services, make sure startup for messanger is manual or every time you start the computer, you will have to disable it.
