Why is it that so many Americans seem to have wet dreams about war? Why the sick obsession with the death and destruction of thousands of people?

I could understand it if people said "We don't like it, but sometimes it's just necessary". However, more and more often I hear American people say stuff like "Nuke all the towelhead fuckers" (including women and children) or "Let's make sure not a single one is left alive".
In my opinion, that's just sick. War, death and destruction are not good things. In fact, they're some of the worst things that humanity has produced. Anyone who thinks war is a good thing is a real idiot. Sure, it may be necessary sometimes, but that does not make it a good thing.
Personally, I think watching all those Hollywood movies has caused many people to forget that war is real. The blood you see on CNN is not fake, it's from real people - dying. These are not actors, who stand up after the shot and go and cash their checks for the movie, these are humans, made out of flesh and blood. They could be your friends, family or neighbours.

No, I'm not from Germany.

And, only 2 of my posts so far have started with that line. However, it is pretty odd that when talking about war, *most* of the americans on this board start talking about how countries should be nuked, flattened, evaporated, disintegrated, exterminated, etc.
When someone makes a comment about that, the response comes down to "Bring it on and we'll kick your ass because we have a large military".

Most people started off saying "war sucks, but sometimes it's necessary." I think that's what everyone still feels. Unfortunately, after months and months of putting up with naysayers who think Bush=Satan (as if other politicians anywhere in the wrold are really any different), that all Americans are bloodthirsty cowboys, that the world is going to be ruined because we want to remove a bloodthirsty tyrant from power, etc. It just gets tiring having to listen to the same tired arguments, so people just give up and say "fuck it, let's do this thing."

You've obviously got a lot to learn about American mentality. Don't mistake dismissiveness for stupidity.

We are all afraid Saddam might acquire nukes, because, being a crazy dictator, he might use them. Then, we say "Let's use nukes to make sure nukes are never used!".

Claims are made that the war is partly to "liberate" the people of Iraq (a good cause), yet Iraqi lives are seen as worthless, dispensible. To me, that doesn't make sense.

Well, when the US government said it had considered using tactical nukes, there were quite a few people on this board that said using nukes was actually a pretty good idea.

Also, "shoot the towelheads" implies not discriminating between them, as if all their lives are worthless. Destroying the enemy is ofcourse necessary, however, this sounds like random killing.

The international community isn't gonna take it up the ass forever I strongly believe that US leaders will not loose integrity out of sight so that's why I said that I do not think that they would push it much further than they are now

The United States of America is the most powerful nation in the history of this planet because its made up of people from all parts of the world. No one is going to displace us anytime soon and should that turn of events ever arise, everyone else will be in even deeper shit then we would be.

Like for example sure, if a 50 mile wide meteorite lands on the USA, you will get to kiss us goodbye, but the rest of the world will go back to the stone ages also if we are gone.

We are not indestructable. We are as vulnerable as any other country, but the only force on earth that could really change the global power structure is Mother Nature and anything on its way here from outerspace, be it alien intervention or meteorites and the like.

The population of a country has no bearing on their military prowess.
