    Webhost advice

Hey guys, i really appreciate your info on this and input,

i got an offer, from a host here on GFY that i will not mention its name, in case there was a better deal outthere, i'd not have given anyone bad name, specially one i did not do business with before, so i do not know if they're good or bad.

the deal i got was, i will buy my own servers from the shops and only host it there,..

    i will pay $125 setup fee, plus $40 per 1 Mbps .. which i think is a lot ?

i probably intend to use around 5-6 MB the first 6 months - one year

plus this bandwidth, i have to pay $100 per month, quite honestly, i did not understand quitely what this $100 is for !!! ? they say to have my box connected to their lines

Well i am already paying for B/W.. is this normal practice with hosts or am i missing something ?

So i'd own my own server and still spend around $340 per montn

while a same deal with them involving me renting my own server there, plus bandwidth, will be $300 per month !!

so now owning my own server will cost me more money to host with them, is this normal ?

    Thanks in advance

    regards,

If you don't need Prime bandwidth, there's no reason to pay $40/meg.

Gerard at WebAir can get you setup with a P4 and much, much cheaper bandwidth.

Ask around. You'll get a better response if you contact providers via ICQ

The deal you mentioned sounds bad to me. You can pay way less than 40.00 per meg for the highest quality bandwidth and servers at www.techiemedia.com I started with 1 server and like 5 megs a few yaers ago with Techie and now I have a bunch of servers and do a few hundred megs. When I started I paid much less than the amounts you just quoted. I would give them a email and see what they can do for you.

                OK...

For he monthly rental, it is for the power , the connection to the backbone and the actual space.
Now, normally, co-location works with servers factor as 1U to 4 U...
                Here is a 1U server ( pic ) . A 1U server will cost less monthly " rental " fee than a 2U or more.

If you have no server and intend to build a regular tower, get in writing the price for a tower.

The advantages of owning your server are the followings:

                - You can add or modify components as you wish. As an example, you need 1GB memory more, you buy the memory ( 30-40 $ ) and put it in. One time fee.
                - If you want to change host, it is as simple as unplugging, re-allocating new IP's provided by new host, re-validating your Control Panel IP, and you are setup.

                The desadvantages:

                - You pay for your server and maintenance. You are responsible for hardware failure.
                - Cost of BW can be higher to compare to rented servers.

For co-location in Montreal, we offer the following:

                1U space

                500 gb premium BW : $CAD 119.00
                ( 10 mbps port )
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....
