We ask for their email address, and then, when need be, send them mail using that email address.

RDNS? This would be up to you/your host to configure that your PTR and A records match. The one thing that PHPList seems to be missing is the ability to bind to a specific interface for sending, so it will always use the default gateway interface/IP.

In regards to spam filters etc, make sure your newsletter is 1) agreed upon to send and 2) actually useful to your members (or ex member, big selling point). Then they will ACTUALLY want to read it and not filter it. With that said, make sure at the newsletters join page it has full warnings of how to check there junk list etc to make sure they get there email.

Lastly, plenty of programs out there to use, ours is built into NATS which runs our affiliate program so its a bit easy. But we also use third parties, feel free to icq me and ill recommend a couple.
