    thinking about getting this CPU

    i currently have an e6600 intel core 2 duo.

    what ya think?

    this one

    Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz / 8MB Cache / 1333MHz FSB / Kentsfield XE / Quad-Core / Socket 775 / Processor with Fan (Retail)

    or

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz / 4MB Cache / 1333MHz FSB / Conroe / Dual-Core / Socket 775 / Processor with Fan (Retail)

                Well, if you go with the QX6850 you will have to upgrade your motherboard to at least a P5N-E SLI (because of the quad-core cpu). However the E6850 should work just fine with your current setup.

                  The way I understand it, is for some time now the regular quad core processor and the Extreme Quad Core are the same chip with different clock settings. With sufficient cooling (Should be easy, they run effecient), you can over clock the $300 Quad core chip to the same performance level.

                        At this stage I wouldn't really count on it; perhaps a negligible difference, but none of my machines are running Vista on a quad so I couldn't say for sure.
