    extra memory or processor

    Hi,

i use my computer for a lot of design stuff and internet, now i find it's gonna slow down. Just formated it, but just helped a little.

    I have duron 600 with 256 MBmemory and W2K
Should I buy a AMD TB 1200 MHZ or buy extra 256 memory so it will be 512 MB?

BTW my comp. is a little server too.

    Thanks

Use a program like TaskInfo 2000 to see how much memory you really use. If you use over 256 on a regular basis - go with the memory - if not - go with the processor.

Your speed depends on so many items like your RAM and speed, processor and cache, harddisk rpm, ...
Upgrading your RAM might help but I doubt you'll see the difference on a 600Mhz box with 256MB already. If you're using it as a webserver, then of course adding new RAM is always welcome...

        I would say get both.
Memory is real cheap at the moment.
Atleast here it is cheap .... Like 40$ for 256meg ram.

I say go with the cpu. You won't really see much improvement with the ram unless you consistenly work with 20 graphics programs open at once. I recently bumped my ram in my big design machine to 768 and a few days later took those chips back out and spread them around to other machines. It works the same on 256. No real difference. So, I have to say go with the cpu. (and obviously, make sure your motherboard can handle the size you're looking to put in it.)
