Help Request about program to use on Sony HDR-FX1 Camcoder

Hi everyones i just purchase a Sony HDR-FX1 camcorder and i did a video shoot and i transfer it with windows movie maker ,but it seem that i can reach the conversion i like i try to convert it in 4.3 instead of 16.9 which is wide screen but when i transfer it in 4.3 the image look skinny and long. Is windows movie maker is the correct program to use with it ?

if no what will be the best one to use with it ?

    Thanks

Your image is still 16:9, but it is what is known as anamorphic 16:9

Drop a hundred bucks on sony Vegas instead of using moviemaker. There's no excuse for spending thousands on a camera and using that moviemaker junk.

I don't use moviemaker, but once you're done editing in anamorphic 16:9 you should be able to export and set the file to display properly.

I think I found the option you want.
Go to your TOOLS menu and select OPTIONS
Under the advanced tab, there is a section called Video properties. In there select aspect ratio to 16:9, then capture your video. It should display properly in MovieMaker.

Premiere 2.0 with Cineform added to it does a good job
also check your settings on the camera
you can change it from 16:9 to 4:3

but lots of good programs out there that will do better then moviemaker when you working with the FX1. YOu bought a HD cam.. get software that can better handle HD content

Vegas sounds good.. never used it so can't say. But have heard other s say it's good

yup, guy above me is right........ for HD the only thing worthy of using is either Premiere 2.0 with cineform OR Premiere CS3, or Final Cut

              moviemaker is for kiddies

I don't use Vegas myself but hear it's quite good. I myself use Avid Xpress Pro at work, but saving up to get a Mac so I can run the latest version of Final Cut Pro which is hot as balls. I only suggested Vegas because it is affordable and it's Sony and you have a Sony camera.

                  Good Luck

Tiffany if you want to convert 16:9 Sony FX-1 footage to 4:3 for the web or standard DVDs, you can crop the edges off when you capture the footage in most any editing app. It is called "center crop". That way you get 4:3 full screen.

Tiffany, I also found the Sony Vegas interface confusing as well last time I checked a few years ago. But it is a powerful editing app and a lot of people like it. You might want to get a Sony Vegas for Dummies type of book if you are just learning and also check the forum at DVInfo.net. I prefer Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 with Cineform's Aspect HD 5.0 plugin to edit hdv myself.

I am a noob with video editing and most of these packages have a challenging learning curve.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0. It is a cut down version of Adobe Premiere and is oriented to the non-professional who will be putting together a basic video by capturing scenes from your camcorder to PC using the firewire connection. It will allow you to edit scenes, insert transitions, make menus, and burn a DVD. It will handle HD but will probably work better in 480i. Your $3000 camcorder can downsize to standard definition....

You can go to Adobe.com and download it for free. It will produce a watermark on the outputted video. It is $99 retail and contains about 70% of features of Premiere Pro which is about $700.

There are a bunch of tutorials that will walk you through the basic features. Have fun.

I'd be careful of filming in 4:3. I believe the cams only shoot 4:3 in SD and then whats the point of using an HD cam? I'd film in 16:9 HD and convert to 4:3 later but that's just me.
Also gotta agree on the Avid. It's pricey but it's been a godsend for me. Easy to use and can do whatever advanced projects you got.
