    Built my first computer!

Took like 8 hours...I even read instructions!

    It's an E6600 with a EVGA motherboard

I still need to get some 2g ddr2 memory but i don't know what is good. Right now it's running off some HP ddr2 512x2 and I need to put in the 8800gt

And I still can't quite grasp what is RAID like if one drive gets coruppted then because they are all in series they all get coruuppted??

Anyhoo it was a good experience here is a picture of the inside ....some of the topics on here were very helpful thanks!

      Congrats!

If you can do without the service of a major company, building it is definitely the way to go. I need "instant" replacement of faulty parts, so this isn't, unfortunately, an option for my "work" machine.

Better off building your own rather than dealing with those assholes from Dell...

Unless you're overclocking it, stick with stock speed DDR2. You'll get no benefit out of faster ram if you're not going to run it at the rated speeds. I've got 2 gigs (2x1gig) of G.SKILL so I could run dual channel. Ram prices are way better right now than 6 months ago. I just bought 2 gigs for what I spent on 1 gig in the fall.

I might overclock it later when I figure out all that but for now I'll leave it as it is.

                  Thanks ungratefulninja

I have RAID in mine, with over 1TB of storage.

ahh ok sorry so you can just keep adding these hard drives for more storage? Is that all it is more storage. but if one fails does that mean you loose your data?

Sorry i leanered alot this weekend but still don't know so much but I'm working on it

Depends on the type of RAID. Wikipedia it.
