Educate me - why processor fees so high ?

Why are adult processing fees so high now ?

Most are roughly 15% on sign-up and rebill. That's a hell of a cut. A lot of non-adult are around the 5% - 8% mark (2checkout et all).

When I originally asked this of a couple of processors ages ago it was because of 'the extra processing of chargebacks etc.' Since most webmasters have been stung for $500 + annual fee to control chargebacks etc. Why the fuck are we still paying such outrageous processing fees ?

Because nobody who competes on a large scale offers notably better rates. Its called an oligarchy, and the end result tends to look a lot like price fixing.

CCnow which is one of the biggest and best for non-adukt stuff charge the same+monthly fees...

They think that we in the internet business, which are not "good" enough to get our mechant account, should be fucked over, and they do. What can we do...? Like the hooker, smile and count your money afterwards....

I'm in the Magazine Business and have to have agents to sell my pictures in the far east and japan, and they charge 50 %

risky business, and even at 15% some of them cant manage to pay because they dont know what is really involved

I wont be suprised if in 12 mionths from now the rates will be 17-20%
