My cat used to only ever eat dry food, but now she eats wet food quicker than you can giver her it.

Why are you trying to give him dry food ? Some cats don't eat any of the stuff at all. As long as he's eating enough, he'll be fine...

he will eventually eat it once he gets hungry enough and from then on without problems, make sure it's for kittens.

Even better is to feed them the best food like Eukanuba or Science Diet, Etc...

I've fed my cats Science Diet brand since day 1 and they are over 7 years old and in top possible condition.

Also cheap food has more filler material which equals more cat shit.
Better food equals less cat shit.

Each cat should get something like 2 shot glass fulls each per day of the good stuff.

I just got a kitty but she hasn't any problems with dry food. I would just let her wait and get hungry enough to eat the dry food. I would suggest putting a couple treats in her dry food which might work for you.

Dry food is supposed to be better as it helps with tartar and also cats tend to get overweight on wet food alone..try mixing up the brands until she finds one she likes

Just put a little bit of antifreeze on its food (about 1/4th an ounce) and it'll eat it all up. Then you can throw the little fucker's corpse in the yard as a warning to future animals that won't eat food that you present them.

                    Cats can be finnicky.

One of mine will only eat this specially forumlated stuff called "Advanced Pet Diet"

uhh.. ive tried a brand from wholefood store
then ultramix, then another kitten food..

ALL of them had no fillers, etc.. im health conscious so im not trying to feed kitty crap..

Basically, i put 1/4 cup of dry food, i left it out whole day and he just nibbled. didnt even finish it!! then i brought out wet food he finished a big can of it at once.

Im confused.. This guy was on the streets and he is already underweight i love him and i want him to put on weight..

His can food is called Organic Turkey & Chicken. Smells like corned beef and it has good nutrition profile.

So keep feeding him wet food?

I remember talking to my vet and the guy at the pet store and all that - and though I don't remember exactly what they told me, I do remember I settled on feeding my 2 cats around 1 can of wet food each per 3 meals of dry food.

They each grew to around 25+ pounds.... one of them, a Russian Blue, was more like a small panthar than a housecat, really. :-)

Best advice is to find and confer with a good vet - sounds like it may still need its shots (a necessity) anyways.

But, I say feed it a wet/dry mixture, and wein off the amount of wet food you put in it over time - then eventually supplement the missing wet food in its diet by serving it a separate dish of wet food every couple days.

Dry food > Wet food in regards to long term and overall health. Wet food plays a part, too, though - so the cat should have some in its diet.

But hell... a lot depends on how old the kitten is, too.

Are we talking around 6-8 weeks here? If so, yeah - wet food may be all it should be eating, as it's just come off its mothers milk.

If it's younger than that (a possibility, I guess - you said you found it, right?), you should be feeding it KMR - a type of feed for infant animals (similar to baby formula) ... you can find it at any feed store. As a kid, I had a mother cat die on me 3 days after giving birth to a litter, and had to nurse them with that stuff for 6 more weeks.... force-feeding them (to start) with a bottle - until they got use to drinking from a man-made kitten-bottle.

If they're around, say 10-14 weeks, you're safe starting to add dry food, I'd imagine.

Much older than that, and my post above this one applies to my opinion.

If you don't know the age - that's another reason for you to visit a vet.

That is the best advice right there. Don't wait for weeks either to schedule the appointment. Take him in and get him examined. The Vet will be able to determine his approximate age and if he has worms, other issues, or is completely healthy. From there the Vet will be able to advise you on what is good and what isn't for your kitten.

I have two cats, one of them didnt eat dry food for the longest time and i took her to the vet and it was because she had a chipped tooth, they removed it and now she its it fine. The vet said there is nothing wrong with putting a cat on a wet food diet. Honestly just mix dry food with the wet food untill it puts on weight and then just feed it dry food once its older and back to normal weight. If you wait long enough the cat will eat it when going hungry.

That would be a good reason why he's not eating dry food yet.

Could be exactly the reason or that he wasn't weaned properly.

I'd say mix it for a while, get some weight on him/her, then slowly go with more and more dry. Might even try just putting down the dry but with some warm water on it to soften it. I leave dry food down for mine 24/7. On dry food only, mine have never seemed to sit there and eat a whole 'serving' at once but rather they graze all off and on all day.

BTW.. I feed Wellness to mine. One of the best cat foods on the market. None of mine are lacking in the weight department.

right now im mixing up these two foods:

ORganic by nature, turkey and chicken wet food

                                              and

Castor & Pollux Natural Ultramix Kitten Formula dry food

                                              should be good?

It is ok to mix dry and wet food if the cat won't eat just dry. Just make sure it doesn't sit too long. When the cat eats it right away, the dry food still has the crunch and hence helps clean the teeth, which is one of the main benefits of using the dry food.

It's good to mix their food together... or give them a mixture, leave a little bit of dry food out and give wet once a day.. Just don't feed kitty ALL wet food or it will have runny poops. Don't forget too to get a scratching post! If you want the kitty to use the scratching post, make sure that it's tall enough that the cat to stretch out it's entire length of it's body and reach the top.. if it's too short, kitty will use your funiture instead. Cover the post in catnip and other good things for kitty, and put kitty's claws in it once in a while. If you find the cat scratching anywhere else, immediately take them to the cat post and put their claws in it.. If you stay on top of this now, your cat will NEVER scratch anywhere other than the cat pole. My cats are 9 and 7, they have NEVER torn up my furniture, carpets, or anything other than their scratching post.

We've got a similar situation with our little one, 'Baby'. This little girl is supposed to be eating her Iams kitten food and 'Smokey' (our big one) is supposed to be eating his Iams adult. Of course each hates their own food and loves the others food. TA is running around trying to switch the bowls on them when they are chowing down. Personally, I don't mind. It's not going to kill them.

I have noticed that Baby loves french fries. I have to tear off little bites for her. She would probably eat them until she burst.

My cat still wont eat dry food. He's going to be 2 in July. So we just keep feeding him wet food. Our vet said theres nothing wrong with it. He's huge.

go to local grocery store and pick up small bottle of asian fish sauce.
Mix few drops into some water and stir dry food in.

slowly lower water levels and sauce.

ive tried 3 brands that are good..

he is HUNGRY but he might just nibble on it..

now, when i open a can of wet food, before i even give him the food he is already crying cuz he can smell it and he wants some!!

Right now mixing both of them is working cuz he eats it all.. so ill just keep mixing it for now. at least he is putting on weight.
