    DirecTV DVR

Anyone have the DirecTV HD tuner/DVR ? I think its like $399.. Worth it? Any issues? The reviews are hit and miss on it.. I like the option to connect WiFi to it from my PC tho to stream other stuff too but how well does it work??

I have it as well. I need to reset it every 2 weeks otherswise I find it locks up (really sucks when you are gone and DVRing something) Overall I am really happy with it, I have had worse problems with other previous directtv equipment.

I have not used the USB or Wifii yet because as far as I know there is nothing you can currently do with it.

USB works fine, just attach an external drive (no real point) or RAID array (whoo, 2TB of space!) to it. I do that here.

If you're a "high end" directv customer (hell if I know the criteria... I believe it means their top-tier package as well as on-time payments for some amount of time), then you should be able to trivially get the HD DVR for $199, or the non-HD version for free.

You WILL need the new larger dish, and multiswitches/etc. to go with it. Unless you ebay this means a directv installer will have to come out (ugh!) to do it. I greatly prefer to do the install myself

          Peace,

they offered it to me for 199 last night I checked on it. Still to much for me as we already have HD. I would like DVR but not for 200 upfront and then the dvr service on top of that.

For 200-300 you are still leasing the fucking thing from them too. It's not like you own it.
