I guess this is old news for everyone here, but i just noticed that
the newest version of Netscape, version 7.01 allows pop-up blocking.

... yes, it´s not on by default, but it is a great feature. have you check the new "tab" option of netscape, it allows you to bookmark tab settings ... so with on click you can open all your favourite sites ... nice !!

Quite a few browsers are doing this now. Maybe it will help the industry learn to support itself without annoyance tactics.

I agree. Also some ISPs are blocking popups. I saw an ad on TV for some ISP and their selling point was the ability to stop popups.

Let the battle on popups begin.
I give it 2-3 years tops, before popups are nothing but a bad memory.

The problem with pop is not that they exist, but that they are abused...

            Popups rule
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Just design your first page to use popups to get to
anything else. They'll turn it back on, they want the
free porn. If they don't, you saved bandwidth.

I agree with that. Nothing wrong with one pop, or one exit, here and there... But most people who use them really slam the user. Those people ruin it for the rest, so soon popups won't be part of the game.

Popups will be history pretty soon. I use Meaya popup blocker and most people I know who spend any serious time on the net do too. Of course, there are the newbies I guess.

But my guess is, popup advertising = 1-2 years at the most. Its just to easy to block.

                    popups will just evolve

they make money so they won't leave entirely I don't think....not for a while anyways

might just have to get a lil more high-tech is all, hidden system shit, etc

did telemarketing or junk mail at the house go away cuz it was annoying? will it ever?

I use a pop-up blocker, but there are pop-ups I want (for example, on one site I go to where models promote themselves, if I click on a thumbnail, the photo doesn't display on a page, but in a console). Luckily, the blocker gives me the option of holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key to allow the pop-up to display.

but i wonder what kazaa and other spyware sites will do now
redirect surfers totally instead of the popups ?
