I'm serious about getting one of these cats by the end of this year. A few questions for ya if ya have a sec, Any special diet requirements? What's the average lifespan of a serval? Is it possible to breed them with other types of cat? Behaviour wise, was it a total pain to litter train Anubis? How "cuddly" are servals (I couldn't think of any other way to say it) - And of course what we single guys all wanna know... Chick Magnet?

Yeah, cant complain. The only real pain in the ass is you cant have things on shelves. And if it can be knocked over, it will be knocked over. The kiddy pool sized shitbox is a bitch to clean. But other than that, nothing but awesome. No problems with aggression or tearing things up.

Thanks man, I actually FINALLY found a breeder. Goddamn google... Persistance pays off baby... Look at these little buggers: Here (Sigh) I think they're already spoken for though... They're WAY cheaper than I thought they'd be too! only $2500.00 Canadian... That's like 10 bucks US!

I dont recommend anyone get one unless you got alot of money for vet and food, alot of space, and plan on spending a whoooole lot of time with it. If you get one, you have to get it as a tiny tiny baby so it will bond to you. Which means bottle feeding it every 4 hours, 24 hours a day. And helping it piss and shit. And both of those are not easy tasks. If you dont raise it right, you will regret it when you have a 40 lb psychocat running around your house. You will have to put it down, and thats not fair to the cat. And the cat will live 20 years. I may make it sound all fine and dandy, but its been hard. I think I had a combination of hard work and luck. I have heard some horror stories.

Oh yeah, don't let my last post make you think I'm jumping into anything, I'm not interested in either of those cubs. I agree with everything you just said, that's why I won't just throw myself into a purchase like this, I'm not going to do anything until I'm ready and if that means waiting for even a year or two, that's fine. I've seen firsthand what "impulse buying" of an animal can do. Some former roommates of mine owned a house and no sooner did they sign the mortgage papers than they went and bought a puppy each. A Border Collie and a Blue Heeler. To make a long story short, they were constantly escaping the yard, destroyed the house, shit everywhere, (And I mean EVERYWHERE), ate everything they could eat and generally fucked up everyone's lives. It didn't help that the aforementioned roommates both developed a nasty crack habit and didn't seem to give a shit that I was the one feeding their fucking dogs. No man, I won't get one of these beautiful animals until I'm READY. I'm just happy I finally found a breeder. Ok I'm going to shut up now.

Other things he may have failed to mention, is that youre basically home bound, unless you can find someone you trust 10000% to take care of it. and since they arent legal everywhere, it can be taken away from you in a second. and they will put it to sleep.
i spoke to a lady in our area who had one, and had left it with a cat siter for a weekend or so.. the lady didnt shut the door completely and due to the fact that these are some of the most curious animals, it got out.
it was microchipped, which helped figure out the area it was in, but they didnt find it till a week after that. laying dead on the side of the road. if it ever got out, forget about EVER getting it back.
after this experience, i would never recommend anyone to get one. not that i dont like him, because i think he is amazing. its just a huuuuge responsibility.
a total commitment. and they live about 20 years. and they say you cant have them around children.
and like labret said, we have been very lucky with ours in terms of aggression, but we have an exception.
i have heard of people, many people, getting stitches due to bites. other household pets getting killed...

i guess it just comes down to the fact that after this experience, i am totally against people owning exotics. there are too many homeless pets in shelters.
