CleanerXL just really can compress shit, plus it does batch jobs

I usually do large encoding runs, 20+ videos at a time....so I just load them into cleaner into a preset template and hit go and it spits out lo and hi wmv and ipod all in one sweep

for instance, I just had a batch finish up...an example of how well cleaner does is
45 minute wmv, full screen quality, 236mb....i can open that on my monitor at full screen and it looks like a dvd

never played with Vegas, it is probably way more than I need...I get avi files, I encode them, that is the extent of what I do

sometimes I do some editing in Premiere, but rarely, most of what I get these days is already edited for me

for encoding I highly suggest canopus pro coder, it lets you encode in several different formats and bitrates simultaneously. Amazing quality whether you are doing wmv or mpeg2 for dvd. Editting I still have to keep it to my macs and final cut though, just make sure you have a good switch to keep your network running smooth when you copy over those large dv files...

I used to do all my own encoding, but now I hire a pro.

I'd have to give the edge to Vegas on both counts.
Though there are some new programs out that are beginning to give Vegas a run for it's money..Magix Movie..and Canopus Pro Coder are pretty nice.

I use vegas for both the reason being I played with cleaner and bought the lite version of procoder didnt see that dramatic of a difference that made it worth the extra step .

Editing with Final Cut HD on the Mac, encoding with Cleaner 6, Mac again. Used to use Premier Pro on the PC for everything but when I got an HD camera my PC wasn't upto the job, so went for a tasty G5.
