    Back-up your stuff

Even if its just overnight....back it up. Water can come through your roof and land on your laptop and wipe out your previous days work. If you don't, it might cost you that shoot you've been trying to set up for the last month.
    I shoot video.

bummer. I try to do weekly backups, daily is a little extreme, unless it's really really important

your hard drive should still be fine, just remove it and connect to another laptop or buy a convertor from compusa to connect to your USB

Unfortunately it's completely fried. Everything was backed up except for the previous days shoot, so not a total lose. We managed to get 4 of 15 sets from the cards and an extra set from using card data recovery software putting us at 5 of 15. We send the hd to data recovery and they did everything except put it in a safe room, but it wasn't successful. We did try an external first but it didn't work. Oh well, I'll try to rebook!

Anybody ever use a safe room on an hd?

I live on the 5-th floor of the 16-th floor bilding so my roof is ok, so water can't come through your roof. But back up is allways good.
