VISTA HELP NEEDED!! Proxy server setting, how do I remove it ?

So my other computer's motherboard fried and I had to get a new one, but since hooking up with a Vista machine I've noticed that I'm now listed as behind a Proxy server.

I contacted my ISP, they say it's something in Vista security settings and are of no help whatsoever (too soon since release to have the answers).

I've searched the Microsoft support forums/pages and have been unable to find anything helpful.

Does ANYONE who's using Vista have any idea how to REMOVE the proxy server settings? It's preventing me from accessing some essential work tools and I really need to get it fixed.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

you're fucked. Try calling Microsoft. They might want to charge you for support. When I called about some tech shit for XP they wanted to charge me

I may be insulting your intelligence here - but I would first go into IE and then tools - make sure your settings in the 'conection' area are correct. It affects the way the whole of Vista works.

hmm.. I'm fucked.. well as fun as that may be Spermie, it's not helpful for my Vista problems!!

I considered calling Microsoft but I also want to live my life before I get old and I've heard wait times can be HOURS and then you end up with some customer service rep who doesn't know shit about the product

I figured with so many tech warrior geniuses on GFY that SOMEONE would have a clue

Yeah I've gone through everything in IE under Tools and also gone through the Help, can't find anything, and I DON'T have Proxy selected, so I'm not sure why it's showing it.

thanks but yeah that's for if I want to set one up. What I've found is that there's one set up without me actually doing anything and it's interfering with my connection, but I can't even find where it's listed!

My goal is to completely remove proxy settings. In that spot listed on the support page there I do NOT have proxy settings selected, so it's really confusing me.

haha i wasn't trying to be a dick or anything lol. I was just saying that since Vista is SO new the odds of getting a useful reply let alone a *correct* fix is slim to none on gfy. There's techie boards out there that would DEFINITELY be more helpful than gfy...

How do you know you're behind a proxy if you can't find it listed anywhere?

I checked through a Proxy site and it said it couldn't read my IP cos I was behind a Proxy, and cos my programs don't work cos I'm behind a Proxy

http://whatismyipaddress.com/ is just one of the locations I tried to determine my IP

Spermie.. I hear what you're saying, but I can't resist the GFY charm so I had to post it here too!

I think they kept that command in vista

well it shows a whole bunch that I don't feel comfortable posting all over GFY lol.. is there anything I should look for? It's super weird cos it shows that WINS Proxy isn't enabled.

I am so not a tech it's not funny, I hope this isn't some noob thing I've done

that should do the trick! In the preferences window there will be a heap of tabs, in one of those will be the solution.
