    Compressing MPGs

I see some of these guys getting really good compression on their mpgs and was wondering how they are doing it.

1.75 MB for a 30 second movie is not bad at all. Plus the quality is good enough to be listed on the biggest movie posts. Anyone know of good software and the settings to accomplish this?

p.s. I have tried virtuadub and TMPGEnc. If those are the ones to use, does anyone know of the best settings to use?

They are a little more complicated than I would like. It would be nice to find one where you enter the source of the movie, tell it to compress to 60% and then specify the output. Something that simple would be great.

It doesn't really depend on the program, even thogh tmpg is one of the better...The most important aspect of compressing is the quality of the original mpeg. The better the quality the original movie is the better your compressed mpeg will look.

why don't you use the divx format? almost everybody has it .. those 30 seconds compressed into 300 KB.
