If XP did that then try a chkdsk with clustercheck etc. on that harddrive.

You could give: 'chkdsk /F d:' a try, although I doubt that it will do clusters aswell... Where's that good ol' 95/98 scandisk.exe? Maybe there are proggies on download.com that can fix clusters and stuff.

I fucking hate XP MS and all their shit!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so pissed now. I'm already waiting more than an hour on the end of scan disk check! I bet all my data has been destroyed now. And the last time I did run XP today it asked to reactivate my legal copy. Said it didn't work trhu the internet. I made a call and then they asked for an ID which I didn't got on my screen. They gave me a phone # of a closed MS office!@

Fuck I'm really pissed on my last day of 2002. I won't buy a legal
piece of MS software soon anymore MS

BTW I advice not to run chkdsk ! it only has helped me to destroy data the times I did use it.

                  chkdsk didn't work

                  got an error pop up
ask me the usual XP crap do you wanna send this info to the office, blah blah

also scandisk isn't even a valid command,

defrag doesn't work on the FAT

That's because scandisk is win95/98 and not on xp, xp has chkdsk, but the proggie might fix it (might also not, but you can give it a try if nothing else helps). Boot to dos and run scandisk.exe (get it from an old boot floppy or internet), and when it asks you if you want to a cluster check just say yes.

Ok i realized that the FAT32 secondary drive was slowly fucking up because of the XP os,

what i did was removed my harddrive and put it in my other PC with win98 and it showed up fine,

just had alot of errors while running scandisk

                          playa,

I am running XP pro, and I have my primary drive formatted to NTFS, and my second hard drive is Fat32. I haven't had any problems with this setup at all for the past year and a half. Maybe it is an older hard drive?
No Thanks, I have my own......

actually it was 36 gig drive that i had bought in the beginning of the year,,
my educated guess is that drive was almost full around 30 gigs,
and in time the drive gotten slower and slower due to the amount of information causing corrupted files, it somethings took a full 30 seconds for me to view a file,

unfortunately XP defrag and chkdsk couldn't fix it because it can't do it on a FAT32 only NTFS
