Content Question

here is something that came to my mind ..
how do we know that a content seller has the rights to sell us a License to any content.

you know when you buy rights for a DVD .. how do you know that whoever is selling the content .. even has the right to do so?

i haven't purchased any content for the last 5 years.. so now that i was looking for some.. it came to my mind .. how the hell am i suppose to know?

Well for one reputation goes a long way.
Mostly everyone knows me. I exhibit at trade shows constantly. Plus paperwork should have thier name on it , thier company name.
