    Video Encoding Advice

Ok so I got 1080i digital video footage, if I bought a DVD recorder and dumped it via firewire to like DVD-RW, would that work?

Or would I loose quality in the transfer...

Julian, how are you planning to write it to the DVD? Encoded to be viewed on TV, or are you just using the DVD as a digital storage medium?

yeah you can just dump it

but then you wont be able to view it on a regular dvd player, so DIVX if it plays that or have a prg make a dvd thats readable on a normal player

I was thinking it would be a work around, dump the raw footage to DVD RW with the stand alone recorder and then move the rough cut clips I need to the PC hardrive for editing in Vegas, and then later author the master DVD with the PC.

I may be on the wrong track here...

If u dump 1080i footage to standard DVD video DVD you will end up with 480p footage.

So yes there is a quality loss.

If you dump via firewire to your PC using HD capture software you will not loose quality.

Thanks ElvisManson for the kind words

Was thinking of using it to skip the PC encoding stage in my workflow, as a time saver.
