Does image quality degrade after a while?

Just looking at images I had over a year ago and they look a little grainer now.
Does this happen because of time?
If so is there anything you can do to preserve the quality of images.
Or maybe it was because I used to buy cheap content and I have a better eye now...I don't know.

    You're joking, right?
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

I just paid $1595 for a UNIX utility called "touch" that touches up all files that you tell it to. You can tell it works because it refreshes the date stamp on the image to the current date, thus making sure the file is as fresh as the day you bought it.

Just kidding; all electronic images are just 1s and 0s... they don't degrade over time (though if the media they're stored on goes bad, that can corrupt the file and often make it totally unreadable, but no corruption = a file just as good (or bad) as the day you bought it).

Yup, the more an image is loaded, the more it deteriorates. Go to a page with pics on it and hit reload for an hour and you'll see a big drop in quality.

I think this might be the same phenomenon that made my superfast Pentium 66 seem so friggin slow now.... And I'm sure that my ultralight laptop got heavier after I loaded a lot of software and files on it

when you look at one image very long time, it burns out in the eye.. therefore recognising bad quality over the time.. let your eyes rest on olive color

if you sit in jail for a long time and have window with metal beams in it.. there are burned in the eyes, and once you're out.. and be looking at clear sky, you still will see shadow from those beams

my terminology might not be correct but i hope you get the idea

you need to buy an apple. image quality doesn't degrade then.

Yeah, I've got some that I left online for a while, and they started to get pixelated... I had to contact the producer to get a fresh set. It took me nearly 3 weeks to get the fresh copies... man it was a pain in the ass!

Someone needs to write a program that will keep online images fresh. Maybe some sort of cyber-preservative or something. They'd make a million!

Yep very true. What we do in our production facility
is store the pictures on a seperate computer
and only copy/move them using a DOS box.
This way the image isnt actually 'viewed' and it helps.

Twice a year (or when members really start to bitch)
we move them to our live servers.

Complicated and a pain in the ***, we call
                                          it "Image Quality Retention" IQR.
