Anyone else experiencing this particular WordPress spam problem?

ask in the wordpress forum...they are pretty good with that stuff...im guessing the problem is that the wordpress is allowing comments to be inserted into the db by calling directly on the post URL.

thats what happens when a software gets too popular. people write software to spam

if you use ping then there may be a bot that looks for new pinged entries and automatically spams them...

I'd definitely suggest you 2.0.x (2.0.5 has been just released).
1.5.x has a lot bugs as far as I know, I actually worked with it a long time ago...

and yeah, try SPAM KARMA plugin, and see if it catches that spam?

Well, the spam never makes it past the moderation queue, I just haven't figured out how they do it since there is no comment option.

Yeah, a lot of my scripts have been getting hammered by that as well... from all the programmers I have talked to, we haven't been able to come up with a fool proof way to stop it.

They actually have a bot submitting it's own form to it, so even removing the form from your page won't stop it. The submissions are coming from a proxy of many many IP's.

I can honestly say I've never seen anything quite like it. They've really put a lot of work into getting these forms submitted on every site their spiders can find online.

It isn't coming from the same IP, and the spam is different. I can't figure out how they are doing this to me.

I don't really have time to see the spam, and in fact, when I go to moderate it, I only see the title of the thread and not much else.

Seems like a lot of drug stuff though.
