personally i would go with AMD as they are cheaper, take less power, and are just generally a better solution.Comment

hows it better? whats that mean? does it lick your balls when you boot it up. ive got amd's and intels.. each has their place.
dollar for dollar my intels are faster than my amd's at video encoding
if you are using for a general purpose pc its a matter of preference, like asking if you like pepsi or coke.Comment

The new intel dual cores are burning AMD ezOriginally posted by rayadp05I rebooted, deleted temp files, history, cookies and everything...still cannot view the news clip. All I see is that fucking gay ass music video from "Rick Roll". Anyone else have a different link to the news clip?Comment

Take a look at this results...
It wasn't even close.
After reading the round-by-round account of our dual-core desktop CPU prizefight, it should come as no shock that AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips are the runaway victors here, laying out the Intel Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition 840 chips pins up. If we had to call out one chip, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is an outstanding bargain given the competition, but as our results show, any AMD dual-core CPU will serve you better than its similarly priced Intel equivalent.Last edited by Adultnet; 10-12-2006, 01:06 PM.

yeah core 2 duo is good.
it doesn't look like AMD has anything but pricing to compete but if you are going on some less powerfull cpu versions AMD can be a good powerFULL solution.Last edited by Adultnet; 10-12-2006, 01:19 PM.

Currently, Intel has better chips... But they are also more expensive. Some support twice the speed on the front side bus and have over a meg in cache memory.
But when you compare prices, AMD's $250 chip kicks Intels $250 chips ass.
However, when you get into the $550+ range (AMD's top chip), Intels chip in that range will beat the AMD by a small margin... The gap only widens when you go past AMD's top chip and move into the $800+ price range, which is an area AMD doesn't have a chip to compete in.
So... If you are building a system you want to work on without video editing, go with AMD... If you need video editing, go with Intel only if your budget can afford to build a computer around that technology.
Remember, the faster bus speed also means you will need a more expensive motherboard and a much more expensive set of RAM chips. 4gigs and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 inside a decent box with a 160gig ATA hard drive will set you back about $1100... An Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme with the same setup would set you back about $2500 - $3000...
Figure out your budget and needs and go from there...
Also a footnote, remember that the AMD chips is going to be 4 times faster than your current chip in the first place... so moving from a Nissan Sentra to a BMW might be enough for you... do you really need a Ferrari?Comment

I like Intel better, mainly because I like Intel boards..
But I have never done bench mark tests.Like the desert needs the rain
