    Does this script exist?

    Need a script that can batch rename files on the server. Could be perl or PHP, so long as it works on a Unix/Linux box. Should batch rename files in a directory like this:

    picture1.jpg --> pic1.jpg

    Can anyone point me in the right direction? Tried a google search but came up empty. Tried hotscripts too.

    Ouch.

      What's your contact info? I don't see an email or ICQ in your profile.

      Ouch.

          type this in the directory:

          for file in `ls`; do mv $file `echo $file | sed 's/^picture/pic/'`; done

          the simple way.. it can get much more complicated but this should do the trick for ya
          I can program better than you
