I have a Dell. Actually all my computers are Dells with the exception of a G3 I have for graphics design.

Dell's are very stable and the battery life is excellent. I think that it is a great laptop to have.

I would reccomend a Thinkpad or a Powerbook.

          I own a thinkpad, and I want a powerbook .

Can't comment on any other type except Dell "Latitude", which has treated my girlfriend very nicely. It's so small and light she loves it.

            Dell or Toshiba.

A friend of mine just got a high end Toshiba and it rocks. Watching a DVD on that was incredible. Total HD. You could read super small text fonts and no pixels. They have those UXG screens at 1600 x 1200 rez so it is just amazing visually.

Im testing 2 notepads right now.
              A IBM R32 and a fujitsu-siemens datasheet E7110

The fujitsu-siemens is kicking ass, and the design and features is the best. Look at the website

PC world had a LARGE review og notebooks on
this page - might want to take a look there

Don't get an IBM thinkpad. They have been using the same junk trackpoint parts for like 10 years. The pointer takes off running all over the screen. Their "fix" for this was a driver that senses when its moving. So when it takes off, you have to let it go for about 1.5sec and then the software driver figures out that its moving and resets it. Sounds good no?

Woohoo. One more non-IBM laptop buyer.

wrong - check out IBM R32
                      - It have both the "eraserhead" and the regular touchpad (first IBM to have that)
                      - the eraser only moves if your finger is on it, it can sence it ("use the force Luke")

I love my little iBook, but the one to lust after is the PowerBook... It's got a huge screen, powerful iron, and a sweet feature set. I know I am a Mac nut, but the Powerbook is converting a lot of people, with good reason.

If you really don't want an Apple, go for a Sony. Why get a laptop if you aren't going to get a sweet machine?

Definately Dell all the way. I have a Dell Latitude CPx and I used to have 10+ days uptime with it unless I rebooted it myself or when I took it out.

I just picked up a Toshiba the other day
Nothing high end but cool as hell to play with.

Dell is like Pioneer, nothing too fancy but dependable as hell and great for the money.

Sony, on the other hand, has the cool toys available and an LCD display that can't be beat.

I have a Dell, wish I had a Sony ;). they have a 17" LCD that gives me wood.
