Avoid 1 and 1 hosting!

They are really cheap ($2.24/month) but damn! You definitely get what you pay for! They are CONSTANTLY down! One of my sites, http://www.RealityTVFriends.com , is down and has been down for 8 hours now! Since Sunday nights are usually reality tv show night, this is flucking killing my traffic! I called up their support (in Manila) and the guy (who's English is horrible) tells me that the server is down and the admins are still trying to figure out what's wrong? I went left on him and then realized that he was just reading a script! So, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Aye, 1and1 may be good on their domain prices but their hosting has always been shitty. Their tech support is fairly good though. For personal projects I?d have to recommend www.jaguarpc.com ? you get unlimited domain hosting, 6 gigs of storage, 180gb of monthly transfer (though their customer support is really shitty) for $7.95 a month. For any personal projects I?ll buy the domain at 1and1 ($5.95 domains are hard to beat) and stick them up at JPC.

I was stupid enough to go for the combo of "host for 6 months and get a free domain name". I'm not sure if I have ownership of the domain or not. Crap! I'm really screwed on this one.

Strange? When I left webair back in June to move to 1 and 1 I feel it was the best move ever,, Not one single second of downtime ever & my sites are so much faster than when hosted elsewhere.. I am very happy with 1 and 1.

Also, when I needed tech support for assistance with modules or whatever, getting them on the phone is always fast.

but then again, I got the bigger package @ 1500 gigs,,

I'm guessing since I went with the smaller package that I was one of the customers that was oversold on a server that has now gone down. This is crazy! Sunday nights are the best nights for reality TV and I was expecting tons of posts! Grrrrr!! I'm guessing I'll check out jaguar pc after I find out whether or not I even have control of the domain name.

Do they promise a certain amount of uptime? If so just use it to get out of your contract and take your domain and move elsewhere. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I have a mainstream client that uses 1and1 to this very day. The result? He is paged by our monitoring systems day and night because they are unreachable from the major backbones.

What's interesting is Netcraft just listed them as "the most reliable".

Not in my book, but I'll take his money until he gets a clue.
