    Digital Camera Advice

    Hey all
I'm tired of my sony mavica fd95 and those damn floppies...
    I'm looking for a 4MP+ digital camera around $400/500
not really to shoot content but more for pics used in websites (I design mainstream sites)
    any advice?
I've been looking at canon, hp cameras so far.

Can you believe I sold my fd95 on ebay for $690!!!

Why not Nikon? Take a look at the Coolpix 5700.. Its thre newest.. Lots of feature, which take a bit to get used to, but i's one powerful digital camera.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

The Nikon 5700 is a great buy with 5 MPs and super sharp images. Its just over $1K at retail, but I've seen places on line selling it in the $800 range.

If you have to stick to a budge at $500, the Nikon 4300 is a great buy.

This site has lots of info and very comprehensive reviews. If you click on Galleries they have samples from all the cameras also.

You could probably find a nice Olympus e10 on eBay for what your looking to spend. The e10 feels and acts more like a real 35mm camera and the quality is outstanding.......

Hit me up if you have any questions - I use the e10 and e20!

          Hope all is well -

I'd look at an Olympus, a Nikon, or maybe a Sony, in that price range. They have some good sub-pro cameras.

i just bought a canon powershot S230. just for fucking around with of course - not for anything work-related. 3 mp, 3x optical zoom, super fucking small and light. very tough and well built. perfect for traveling

Hi I have bought recently a canon ixus 330(powershot S330 in US) Here it was 510 dollars...

http://www.thumbtgp.com/7.jpg is a picture made with that cam.

And I must say, I['m happy with it, easy to use, and if you want you can set your own settings as well..

Hi Andre - that is excellent quality especially for the investment that you've made. Here's a pic from my e10. This is an explicit "adult oriented" shot so just be forewarned

I feel your pain my friend, for I too am using an FD95... It's a decent camera with a good zoom lens, BUT it's just too goddamn S L O W and I'm sick of fucking FLOPPIES! Once I have the budget, I'm going for a Nikon D100. Can't wait...

Dean, nice shooting man! Long live digital!!!

I use Olympus because of the FL-40 flash system. This flash system is controlled by the camera and has a swivel head. Almost all of my indoor work is just fill and bounce, using the fill from the camera and light bounced off the ceiling.

I think Nikon is the only company with a similar flash system on their digitals.

A bit of advice: For web work, 2 megapixels is plenty. It's getting hard to find a 2 megapixel camera that isn't just a toy, but don't buy a camera just because it's got 5 megapixel capability. My best camera has four, but I shoot everything at 1600x1200, which is at about 2 megapixels. Figure out what your finished size will be and then buy a camera which shoots a bit bigger (25%-33% bigger will be plenty). Then reduce to the final size. These photos always look better than ones shot AT the final size.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

I also have a Nikon CoolPix900.. It's a 3.2 Mega Pixel.. Its almost perfect, but its a tad slow and the auto-focus lcok in is not always right on the money.. Great camera however. I went for an upgrade to the CoolPix 5700.. GREAT CAMERA, but shoots huge files... I shoot on basic with it and still get these 2500xsomething images. Nikon has alwasy gone for over kill though. I still love the camera.... Talk about fast!!! WOW!
