"The question is:

A plane is standing on a runway that can move (some sort of band conveyer). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but in opposite direction).

Does the plane ever take off, and why or why not?"

the nerds said "sure it takes off, the wheels dont power the plane the engines do"

of course the plane won't take off. the plane does not move, the wheels and the conveyor move.
without air movement, there is no lift, ergo, no flight.

ahhh feels good to be in a place where people support my "wild" theories. when i get enough people posting "of course it WILL take off" i will link this thread to the noob board and humiliate them all!

you have to get airflow over the wing
go turn your shower on..if you have a shower curtain..the same force that brings the curtain at you in the shower...is lifing the plane
