I have a main stream web site and I want to build my counter hits. I signed up for a couple of these auto surf for hits programs and although their stats showed that I received a couple of thousand hits, my counter showed nada from them. In addition I never even saw my site in their rotation. I purchased some hits but same thing. Even though they claim the hits were delivered my counter showed nada from them. My question is any one aware of a legitimate auto surf for hits program? I just want something that will register with my counter, I don't care about productivity.

Apparently mine does not. I checked the data files and I think I can adjust them, but then again it looks a bit complicated and I don't want to screw up the operation of the counter.

Well, a wee bit of deception. It is a community directory and I will be selling advertising for businesses within the county. It is new and I will be beginning an advertising campaign soon so I need the appearance of some resonable traffic. I am getting more and more search engine traffic but it is not building at a fast enough rate to satisfy me.

It is not ripping off advertisers, it is, I admit making advertisers think that the site has received more productive traffic than it has, but they have a choice between a free ad, or a paid ad, with the free ad being name of business, business address, business phone. But yes it is, in my oinion, a small deception. I could wait a couple of more months and let my traffic build on its own initiative, but I am anxious to start my advertising campaign for the web site. As for your opinion. twice.

the reason you dont see your site in the rotation is because you dont view your own site bcuz that would b redundant. it could be that your counter only registers unique traffic or your counter does not load in the allotted time for that auto surfer. i run them and my counters reflect it.

Do you think putting my counter at the top of the page might be a viable solution. I have a cable modem but according to tests it takes 64 seconds to load with a 56K modem. Or another possible solution is to make a page just for the auto surfers and their 15-20 seconds on page?

Explain in detail how it is scamming? If in fact I actually get the hits and they register on my counter how is this scamming. Other than the fact that I know the hits for the most part will be un-productive hits. Then again maybe they won't be that unproductive. Maybe someone will find something of interest on the site.

Thanks, but no thanks. I am sure that if I spent a couple of hours studying the script that I have I could make some alterations in the data, but I prefer not to mess with the script and I would prefer getting legitimate hits, even though they will probably not be productive.

You might be right. They may be hit bot hits. I never even heard of auto surf for hits programs until a few days ago. I was looking to buy some traffic and did, but if the hits were delivered (as is claimed) they did not show up on my counter. When I was looking for traffic to buy that is when I started running across these auto surf for hits programs. I want ligitimate hits even though they will probably not be very productive. I could just change the data in my counter script but I choose not to do that. The more I think about it they probably are hit bot hits, and this probably applies to the majority of traffic brokers.

Most auto surfing programs are smart enough to not allow hitbotting. I have tested my script and it can't be done. And if your page takes 54 seconds to load that would be a good reason why your counter is not counting auto surfing programs. Plus with most auto surfers you will only receive 10 or 15 % unique hits. Maybe your counter only tracks uniques...

My suggestion: Hit Refresh. A lot.

Ok, now for my real suggestions:

1. Get a different counter. Most are free and allow you to start with whatever number you like.

2. Lose the counter. How many professional sites out there use counters? When is the last time you saw a counter at Yahoo, or ESPN or USAToday? Personally, I think counters only show visitors how many people are NOT visiting a web site. And the fact that you are considering "faking" hits so your advertisers think you have a higher traffic base than you actually do, whether this qualifies as scamming or not, it is a bit shady. So just lose the counter. Problem solved.

Dude, 64 seconds to load at 56K? That's your damn problem. Ethics of the scam aside, I bet your page loads so slowly that the window is closed before the counter even has a chance to count the hit. Counter at the top of the page might help but in all honesty, your page isn't gonna draw shit with that kind of load time.

If your statement is directed at me. I am not falsifying anything "to charge more for advertisment" and no where in this thread is that mentioned. If auto surf programs are not legitimate hits (and they may or may not be) I don't want them. If they are legitimate hits, even though I suspect they may be very unproductive, I would take them. If they are legitimate hits then it is not any different then buying traffic, one you are acquiring with cash, the other you are acquiring with time.

I think you are right. I just recently tested the page and learned that it takes 64 seconds to load. I sometimes forget that I am using a cable modem and others are not. I will take the affiliate buttons off and replace them with text. I now am glad that I have not started my advertising campaign at this point. In addition I am changing hosts as my site is down again.

Buying traffic is taking someone elses legit extra traffic and sending it to your site.

Auto surfer is taking a bunch of people with autorefresh browsers who are not even looking at the sites as they load.

Unless your site is set up to detect hit bot hits you do not know if the traffic you are purchasing is legitimate or not. My site is not set up to detect hit bot hits. Honest traffic brokers are far and few between. I will delay my advertising campaign until I build the traffic the old fashion way. Which will take another two to three months. In addition I am going to have to find a reliable host. The one I am with has gone to hell and it does not look like they are going to recover.
